Future Automotive professor

Fontys Engineering

Fontys Engineering is one of the 26 institutes within Fontys. It is situated in the heart of a top technological region, enabling it to respond optimally to developments in the region by making an important contribution to the regional knowledge infrastructure. The programmes at Fontys Engineering include Automotive, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.

The development of knowledge is an important part of Fontys’ social mission; knowledge gained from practice-based research. The automotive industry is undergoing an enormous transition, meaning that there is a great demand and need for knowledge. This transition also means that, in the future, the automotive sector will be increasingly intertwined with the energy and logistics sectors. This calls for a multidisciplinary approach to research. The Future Automotive research group takes this approach.

What will your role as Future Automotive professor entail?

As Future Automotive professor, you will be the link between Fontys and the business community/the academic world. You are also responsible for knowledge transfer to the programmes of Fontys Engineering in particular. You will be the leading professor on the theme of mobility at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, and will therefore represent the research on this theme to the business community and society on Fontys’ behalf. The professor is the figurehead, as it were, for Fontys on this subject.

Within the education field, you will use the knowledge from your network to modernise the existing automotive-related lecture notes from year 2 of the programme. You will be expected to work with businesses to define internship and graduation assignments on important automotive topics.

You will flesh out the 2021-2025 research programme for the Future Automotive research group. In the coming period the programme will focus on topics including:

  • Electrification of road traffic;
  • The integration of new safety systems and systems for automatic and autonomous driving;
  • System integration (battery packs, fuel cell systems and ADAS);
  • (Smart) manufacturing, in co-operation with the manufacturing industry.

You will work with the members of the research group to further strengthen the network with the Dutch Automotive industry and relevant government and other institutions. You will also increase the focus on international co-operation with leading businesses and research institutions.
